Kalimpong

Kalimpong is a town and the headquarters of an eponymous district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is located at an average elevation of 1,250 metres (4,101 ft)The area around Kalimpong lies in the Eastern Himalayas, which is classified as an ecological hotspot, one of only three among the ecoregions of India. Neora Valley National Park lies within the Kalimpong subdivision and is home to tigers. Acacia is the most commonly found species at lower altitudes, while cinnamon, ficus, bamboo and cardamom, are found in the hillsides around Kalimpong. The forests found at higher altitudes are made up of pine trees and other evergreen alpine vegetation. Seven species of rhododendrons are found in the region east of Kalimpong. The temperate deciduous forests include oak, birch, maple and alder. Three hundred species of orchid are found around Kalimpong. Deoli Hill

Delo Hill is one of the two hills that the town of Kalimpong stands between. Kalimpong is situated on a ridge connecting the two hills, Durpin and Delo. The hill is 1,704 metres (5,590 feet) above msl. The hill is located north east of the town. Three water reservoirs, two of which serve as the primary drinking water source to the town are present atop this hill. The town of Kalimpong, the surrounding villages of Relli valley, Teesta River and its valleys all can be viewed from this point

Zang Dhok Palri Phodang Monastery

Zang Dhok Palri Phodang is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Kalimpong in West Bengal, India. The monastery is located atop Durpin Hill, one of the two hills of the town. It was consecrated in 1976 by the visiting Dalai Lama. The monastery houses many rare scriptures that were brought into India after the annexation of Tibet in 1959. It also houses the 108 volumes of the Kangyur. It is also popularly known as the Durpin Monastery. The view from the hill-top is breathtaking.

Mangal Dham Mandir

At a distance of 1 km from Kalimpong Bus Station, Mangal Dham is a Hindu temple located in Kalimpong of West Bengal. Situated close to Thongsa Gompa, it is one of the most significant religious centers in West Bengal and among the must visit places in Kalimpong. Mangal Dham was built in 1993 by Shri Krishna Pranami in the divine memory of late guru Shri Mangaldasji. In 1940, Guruji Shri Mangal Dasji Maharaj visited Kalimpong. The visit had a profound impact on him. He decided to realize his divine dreams of serving the poor and needy in Kalimpong. He built many orphanages, schools and temples. Sprawling over an area of 2 acres, the temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The whole theme of the dham is Knowledge, Devotion and Service. The Samadhi of Guruji lies in the ground floor while the prayer hall is in on the top floor where one can see the idol of Raj Shyamaji flanked on both sides by the Revered Prannathji and Shri Guru Mangaldasji. There are many paintings and diorama depicting various scenes from Krishna Leela on the walls of the temple. The ambience in the dham is serene and visitors can walk across to various parts of the dham. The area outside the temple has a beautiful garden with colorful fragrant flowers.

Lava Lolegaon

Lava Lolegaon as a destination fast becoming a preferred choice of the North Bengal bound tourists. Located at an altitude of 2350 metres, Lava is a quaint little hamlet which is located in the Kalimpong district of West Bengal. This sleepy and calm village falls on the trade route of Bhutan and is adorned with pine forests and coniferous trees.
